Artifacts to re-vere/collect all that is fleeting, small-scale installation, Cast bronze, assorted found organic materials, 2023.
Arrangement, contemplation, meditation of natural materials gathered at High Park and Woodbine Beach with bronze castings impressed with their form—these materials were collected from the ground, with care to not disturb the active environment, re-contextualizing through this work those which have been severed from it, recognizing their sacredness as part of nature's simultaneous ephemera and permanence.
Through these objects inspired by the formation of lava fossils, I explore the intimate awareness formed of a material undergoing an intense, nearly destructive process, bound to the specific conditions at the moment of casting—these materials will never be articulated in the same way again. Mediation of the interaction between molten metal and natural material calls for a respectful attentiveness and an intuitive, mindful connection when arranging the sensitive objects.
This accumulative installation is my attempt to preserve a sacred moment in time with the fragile materials that make up our environment.
