Returning to that Midnight Heartbeat, 2024. Stoneware, bronze, sterling silver, wild grapevine from Dundas, Ontario, approx. 13" x10" x 8.5".

My matriline of Grandmother, Mother, and Child manifested in individual vessels, deliberate forms reveal how we relate to and share love with one another, how we are equipped to give and take, considering the ways these efforts are obstructed by wounds which overwhelm the spirit and prevent authentic connection. The making of this work comes from the realization of a love that has always persisted between us, following a profound moment of learning, of being reminded that a conditional love is just as real and tangible as any other form of love.

Reconsidering this love to be just as tangible and true as any other is the most intimate act of returning, finding our way home, to what David Whyte describes as “...this beautiful, enclosed darkness where the fluid inside our lungs and our breathing was the same as the fluid outside of us, and we were close to the midnight heartbeat of our own mother.”
